Finance Minister Victoria Belous met with representatives of the Congress of Local Authorities in Moldova (CALM) to discuss proposals on tax policy for the coming year and their impact on local budget revenues.

The Chisinau Regional Sectoral Trade Union Center for Education and Science announced a protest to be held outside the Government building on August 19. The protest was prompted by uncertainty surrounding pay raises for education sector workers.

The government has approved the National Program for the Development of the Water Supply and Sewerage Sector for 2026–2030. The total estimated cost of the measures outlined in the program is approximately 598 million lei.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan is proposing to revise the procedure for granting tax breaks on reinvested profits following an incident involving a small business in the village of Gidigich, Chisinau Municipality, which lost its right to a zero income tax rate on reinvested profits because it filed its tax return seven days late.

Today, as part of projects by the Energy Efficiency Fund in Moldova’s Residential Sector (FEERM), the first seven contracts for construction work were signed for high-rise buildings in Chisinau, Hincesti, Ialoveni, and Balti. Work is already underway in four buildings, and will begin in the other three shortly.

Approximately 60.5% of local budget revenues come from transfers from the national budget. By comparison, the average for countries in Southeast Europe is about 30%. MP Angela Cutasevici proposes increasing the share of revenue that remains at the disposal of local budgets.
