According to the capital’s city hall, the work from Ion Dumeniuc Street to Bucovina includes the construction and improvement of 47,300 m² of roadways, 17,500 m² of sidewalks, and 2.4 km of bike lanes.
Nine public transportation stops will be installed in this area, along with a new terminal stop, 5,800 m² of green spaces, parking spaces for electric vehicles, “smart” traffic lights, and raised crosswalks.
A new trolleybus line will be added to the boulevard, along with a newly constructed overhead contact system, a traction substation, and a modernized dispatch center.
As Logos Press previously reported, the work is being carried out as part of the “Expansion of Mircea cel Bătrân Boulevard” project. This is the first phase of one of the capital’s largest infrastructure projects in recent years.
The total cost of the project is 74.3 million euros. The value of the first contract signed by the capital’s authorities is approximately 22.5 million euros.
The project contractor, AK Zhol Kurylys L.L.P. from Kazakhstan, was selected through an international tender in accordance with the rules of the lender—the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The project implementation period is 24 months.
