The festival was initiated by the agricultural enterprise Ferma Gnatiuc. The main aim of the event is to showcase the entire milk production chain and the importance of each stage, including pastures, high-quality feed, sophisticated machinery, the daily work of farmers and modern processing technologies.
“We want farmers and processors throughout the supply chain to promote more milk and dairy products produced in Moldova, and to show consumers their actual journey. This is precisely where the idea for ‘From the Field to the Glass’ came from,” notes the festival’s initiator, entrepreneur Stella Mosynzeu.
Challenges and support for local producers
Running a farm involves high costs: these include expenditure on feed, electricity, labour, veterinary services and modern equipment. In such conditions, domestic producers need to remain competitive.
As the entrepreneur emphasises, the development of local production depends directly on consumers’ choices:
‘Consumers in Moldova must understand just how important their support is to farms. We are wasting our time complaining about the lack of local milk if we consciously head to the shop shelf and choose imported products. It is a complex and lengthy chain: farmer, processor, shop and consumer. If even one link is missing, the whole system suffers. Farmers need a fair price, processors need high-quality raw materials, and consumers need a safe product.”
Stella Mosynzeu adds that shoppers should be able to make informed choices, guided by more than just price. According to her, it is domestic producers that people should look for on shop shelves and give preference to local produce. After all, both farmers and processors are doing everything they can to produce truly high-quality milk and dairy products.
Festival programme
The festival is aimed at both professionals in the agricultural sector and the general public. Guests will be able to meet local producers, sample natural milk and cheeses, and learn more about the intricacies of agriculture.
Visitors can look forward to interactive entertainment, large-scale tastings of dairy products, as well as a business area for farmers where they can discuss business, technology and potential partnerships. The festival will conclude with a festive concert, headlined by the popular performer Satoshi.
The organisers are confident that the festival will help establish a direct dialogue between producers and consumers, as well as provide a better understanding of the journey milk takes before it reaches our tables.
