This Privacy Policy explains how the Logos Press website — logos-pres.md (hereinafter the “Site,” “Logos Press,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, stores, and protects the personal data of users and other individuals.

We consider the protection of personal data an important part of the Site’s operations, and we aim to process only the data that is necessary for specific, legitimate, and clear purposes.

This Policy applies to all language versions of the logos-pres.md website, including the Romanian, Russian, and English versions.

2. Applicable law and scope

The processing of personal data is carried out in accordance with applicable law, including:

Law of the Republic of Moldova No. 195/2024 on the protection of personal data;
applicable provisions of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova on information society services and electronic communications;
the international obligations of the Republic of Moldova in the field of privacy and personal data protection;
Regulation (EU) 2016/679 — the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — in cases where it applies to the relevant processing in accordance with its territorial scope;
other applicable regulations of the Republic of Moldova and European requirements.

Where the rules of different legal regimes apply simultaneously, we aim to apply the standard of protection that ensures an appropriate level of protection for the rights of the data subject.

3. Basic principles of data processing

In handling personal data, we are guided by the following principles:

lawfulness, fairness, and transparency;
use of data only for determined and legitimate purposes;
minimization of the volume of data collected;
accuracy and up-to-dateness of information;
limitation of storage periods;
confidentiality and security;
limitation of access to data;
accountability of the controller for compliance with legal requirements.

We do not seek to collect personal data “for the future” when there is no specific need for its processing.

4. What personal data we may process

The volume of data processed depends on how you interact with the Site.

4.1. Data you provide to us directly

We may receive data when you:

contact the editorial office;
send a message to a journalist or an employee of Logos Press;
contact the advertising and marketing department;
fill out a form available on the Site;
register on the Site, if such a feature is used;
submit a proposal, request, complaint, or inquiry;
provide materials to the editorial office;
contact us regarding subscriptions, cooperation, or advertising;
otherwise voluntarily provide information.

Depending on the situation, this data may include:

first and last name;
email address;
phone number;
organization and position;
the content of your inquiry;
information contained in submitted documents or materials;
information necessary for registration or for the operation of the relevant Site feature;
other data you voluntarily provide.

We recommend that you do not submit special categories of personal data or other sensitive information through the Site unless this is necessary for a specific inquiry.

4.2. Technical data

When visiting the Site, servers and technical systems may automatically process a limited amount of technical information, for example:

Optional analytics technologies must not be activated before obtaining the user’s appropriate consent.

4.5. External functional content

Certain pages of the Site may use third-party services, in particular:

Google Maps;
YouTube;
OpenStreetMap;
Google reCAPTCHA.

Such services may receive technical information about the user’s device or connection.

If consent is required for the relevant service, the external content is loaded only after consent has been granted for the corresponding category of cookies or technologies.

5. Purposes for which we use personal data

We may process personal data for the following purposes.

6. Consent and its withdrawal

Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Refusing optional analytics, advertising, or functional cookies must not prevent access to the Site’s core editorial content.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

8. Who personal data may be shared with

We do not sell users’ personal data.

Access to personal data may be granted only to the extent necessary for a specific purpose.

Recipients or categories of recipients may include:

Technical service providers For example:

hosting providers;
developers and technical support companies;
infrastructure providers;
security system providers;

other technical contractors.

These parties gain access only to the extent necessary to perform the relevant task.

Analytics service providers Based on the user’s consent, data may be processed by the services used by Logos Press for analytics, including Yandex.Metrica and Microsoft Clarity.

External content providers Where the appropriate consent has been given, data may be shared with providers of functional services, such as Google, YouTube, OpenStreetMap, and other providers of embedded content.

Professional advisors Where necessary, information may be provided to lawyers, auditors, accountants, and other professional advisors, subject to confidentiality requirements.

Public authorities Personal data may be shared with courts, law enforcement bodies, tax authorities, regulators, or other competent public authorities only where there is a legal basis for doing so.

Changes in business structure In the event of a reorganization, merger, sale, or transfer of a relevant part of the business, data may be transferred to the successor in rights, subject to compliance with applicable legal requirements.

9. Journalistic activity and editorial materials

Logos Press is a mass media outlet and publishes materials on economics, business, social life, and other topics of public interest.

It is therefore necessary to distinguish between:

the processing of Site visitors’ data, described in the main part of this Policy; and
the processing of personal data in the context of journalistic and editorial activity.

In the preparation and publication of journalistic materials, personal data may be processed for the purpose of:

informing society;
exercising freedom of expression and information;
preparing journalistic materials;
fact-checking;
maintaining the editorial archive;
preserving the historical authenticity of publications;
covering matters of public interest.

In such processing, data protection rights must be assessed taking into account freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and society’s right to receive information.

This means that the right to erasure of personal data is not an unconditional basis for the automatic removal of a lawfully published journalistic article.

Upon receiving a relevant request, Logos Press may consider, in particular:

the public significance of the information;
the person’s role in public life;
the timeliness of the material;
the accuracy of the information;
the time elapsed since publication;
the potential harm to the individual;
society’s interest in retaining the information;
the need to preserve the editorial and historical archive;
applicable law on freedom of expression and media activity.

Following review of the request, where necessary and legally justified, measures such as correcting the information, updating the material, publishing a clarification, restricting certain data, or other proportionate measures may be considered.

10. Marketing communications

If a user separately expresses a wish to receive news, offers, or other marketing communications from Logos Press, the corresponding contact details may be used for that purpose.

Where the law requires consent, marketing communications are sent only after such consent has been obtained.

The user may at any time:

unsubscribe from communications;
withdraw consent;
object to the use of their data for direct marketing.

Upon receiving a relevant request, we cease using the data for direct marketing, except for the minimal information that may be necessary to record the objection and prevent the communications from being sent again.

11. International data transfers

Some of the technology service providers we use may process data outside the Republic of Moldova.

Where personal data is transferred to another country, such transfer is carried out only where there is a legal basis and, where necessary, appropriate safeguards.

Depending on the circumstances, such safeguards may include:

recognition of the relevant country or territory as providing an adequate level of protection;
standard contractual clauses;
other contractual or organizational/technical safeguards;
exceptions provided for by law for specific situations.

Where the GDPR applies to a particular processing activity, cross-border transfer is also carried out in compliance with the requirements of Chapter V of the GDPR.

We aim to select providers and transfer mechanisms in such a way that the level of protection of personal data is not reduced as a result of the international transfer.

12. How long we retain data

We do not retain personal data longer than necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.

In determining the retention period, we take into account:

the purpose of processing;
the volume and nature of the data;
the need to ensure security;
the duration of the relationship with the user;
legal requirements;
the need to be able to demonstrate consent given;
the time limits within which legal claims may be brought or defended.

Correspondence data may be retained for the period necessary to review the inquiry and subsequently confirm the commercial or editorial communication.

Account data, if such a feature is used, is retained for the duration of the account’s existence and for an additional period necessary to comply with legal obligations or resolve any disputes.

Technical logs are retained only for the period necessary to ensure security, diagnostics, and the investigation of technical incidents.

Information that the law requires us to retain for a specific period is stored for the period established by law.

Once the purpose of processing has been achieved, data is deleted, anonymized, or otherwise excluded from active processing, unless there is a legal basis for its further retention.

13. Protection of personal data

We adopt reasonable technical and organizational measures aimed at protecting personal data against:

accidental destruction;
loss;
alteration;
unauthorized disclosure;
unlawful access;
misuse.

Depending on the nature of the processing, these measures may include:

delimitation of access rights;
account protection;
software updates;
backups;
secure connections;
logging of security events;
restriction of access for employees and contractors;
organizational rules for information management.

The choice of protective measures takes into account the nature of the data, the scale of processing, technical capabilities, and existing risks.

At the same time, no method of transmission or storage of information over the internet can guarantee absolute security.

14. Your rights

Under applicable law, you may benefit from the following rights.

Right to be informed You have the right to receive clear information about what data we process, for what purposes, and on what basis.

Right of access You may request confirmation of whether we process your personal data and obtain the information required by law regarding such processing.

Right to rectification You may request the correction of inaccurate personal data or the completion of incomplete data.

Right to erasure In cases provided for by law, you may request the deletion of your personal data. This right is not absolute. Data may be retained, for example, where necessary for compliance with a legal obligation, the defense of rights, freedom of expression and information, journalistic activity, or other purposes provided for by law.

Right to restriction of processing In cases provided for by law, you may request the temporary restriction of the use of your data.

Right to object You may object to processing based on legitimate interest, taking into account the circumstances of the specific situation. With regard to direct marketing, the right to object may be exercised at any time.

Right to data portability Where applicable conditions are met, you may receive the data you have provided in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, or request that it be transmitted to another controller, where such a transfer is technically possible.

Right to withdraw consent If processing is carried out on the basis of consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

Rights regarding automated decisions You benefit from the rights provided by law regarding decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.

As of the date of the last update of this Policy, Logos Press does not apply, with respect to regular visitors of the Site, decision-making processes based solely on automated processing that produce legal or other similarly significant effects for them.

15. How to exercise your rights

To exercise your rights, you may contact Logos Press using the contact details indicated in Section 1 of this Policy.

To correctly identify the data and protect it from disclosure to an unauthorized person, we reserve the right, in certain cases, to request additional information necessary to confirm the requester’s identity.

We strive to respond to legitimate requests without undue delay and, as a general rule, no later than one month from receipt of the request.

If the request is complex or a significant number of requests have been received, the statutory time limit may be extended by no more than a further two months. In such a case, we will inform you of the extension and the reasons for it.

The exercise of rights is free of charge, except in cases where the law permits a reasonable fee to be charged or a request to be refused where it is manifestly unfounded, excessive, or repeatedly submitted.

16. Complaint to the supervisory authority

If you believe that your personal data is being processed in violation of the law, you may contact us to resolve the situation.

The right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority or a court is retained regardless of whether you have previously contacted Logos Press.

17. Children’s data

The Logos Press website is a general information and business resource and is not specifically intended for the collection of children’s personal data.

We do not deliberately seek to collect the personal data of minors without an appropriate legal basis.

If the processing of a child’s data requires the consent of their legal representative under applicable law, such consent must be obtained in the manner provided by law.

Particular attention is paid to the protection of children’s personal data in the preparation of journalistic materials.

18. Links to third-party sites and social networks

Logos Press materials may contain:

links to other websites;
links to social networks;
embedded maps;
video content;
other external content.

Once you access a third-party resource, data processing is governed by the rules of the relevant provider.

Logos Press does not independently determine the terms of data processing on third-party sites and recommends reviewing their privacy policies.

If external content is capable of transmitting data to a third party even before the user interacts with it, we aim to block such content until the user’s necessary consent has been obtained.

19. Changes to this Policy

We may periodically update this Policy, in particular in the event of:

changes in legislation;
changes in the functionality of the Site;
the connection of new services;
changes of providers;
changes in the methods of data processing;
updates to internal information protection procedures.

The current version is always published on logos-pres.md.

The date of the last modification is indicated at the beginning of the document.

If changes significantly affect the nature of the processing of personal data, we take reasonable steps to further inform users, where required by law.
