This year, the championships were organised for the first time under the auspices of World Boxing – an international federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee. The Moldovan Boxing Federation joined the organisation in 2026.
The national team was selected based on the results of the qualifying bouts for the Moldovan Championship. The qualifying competitions took place from 2 to 5 July at the Chisinau Athletics Hall.
One of the team’s key members is Alexander Paraskiv, a medallist at both the World and European Championships. The boxer stated that he is in good form and ready for the tournament. He also emphasised the importance of mental preparation ahead of the bouts.
The men’s national team comprises:
K. Turcu — până la 50 kg;
V. Vascovschi — până la 60 kg;
A. Paraschiv – până la 65 kg
V. Cebotari — până la 70 kg;
D. Bozorov — până la 75 kg;
V. Razmerița — până la 80 kg;
A. Chiriacov — până la 85 kg;
A. Zaplitnii — până la 90 kg;
N. Burduja — peste 90 kg.
In the women’s tournament, Moldova will be represented by Maya Odajiu (up to 51 kg), Yulia Korol (up to 54 kg) and Daria Sazonova in the up to 80 kg category.
A special feature of the tournament organised under the auspices of World Boxing
The boxing bouts will take place at the Asics Arena. This is the first senior European continental championship organised by European Boxing – a new European body established within the World Boxing system, which is led by Kazakhstani world boxing champion Gennady Golovkin.
Previously, such championships were organised by the IBA (formerly known as AIBA). However, on 22 June 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially withdrew its recognition of the association due to a protracted crisis of confidence. As the organisation lost the right to host Olympic tournaments and was deprived of its income, its influence plummeted, and many countries began to withdraw their membership.
