The events will take place not only in the capital but also in the regions – Călărași and Nisporeni – as well as in dozens of educational institutions and public bodies across the country. More than 3,500 people of all ages are expected to take part in the events: from nursery school children and school pupils to students, families and older people.

As Dan Perciun, Minister for Education and Research, notes, the main aim of the campaign, which runs under the pan-European slogan #BeActive, is as follows: “You don’t have to be a professional athlete to be active. Walking, running, outdoor games, gymnastics or family sports activities can become habits that are accessible to absolutely everyone.”

At a pan-European level, the initiative was launched by the European Commission in 2015, whilst in the Republic of Moldova, European Week of Sport has been held since 2018.
