The document provides for the automatic extension until that date of identity documents for persons who were granted temporary protection by 28 February 2027.
Additional conditions are being introduced for new applicants. They will be required to provide proof of having fulfilled their military obligations in Ukraine or of being exempt from them. If legal departure from Ukraine cannot be confirmed by Border Police records or by stamps in travel documents, an official document must be presented, including proof generated via the ‘Reserv+’ app.
Persons who have previously been granted temporary protection in an EU Member State or a Schengen State will be required to declare this and to provide documents confirming the cessation or renunciation of that status.
Applications for temporary protection will be submitted exclusively online via protectietemporara.gov.md.
The draft is due to be approved by the Government.
It should be noted that on 30 July 2026, the European Union (EU) decided to extend the temporary protection measures for the 4.4 million Ukrainian refugees in Member States until March 2028.
