“It will be clear by then. That is why, at the moment, to say exactly how much this adjustment will be – yes, it is likely. It is very likely, given global gas prices and European gas prices, but we will only know for certain once the average purchase price for September is known,” the minister told journalists after the Cabinet meeting.
According to Mr Junghietu, any adjustment could be announced in early October:
“What is important is that gas is contracted in advance, based on a formula indexed to the TTF price. The price is effectively known at the start of the following month, based on the weighted average of the daily prices for the previous month. In October we will have the price and Energocom will then carry out its calculations; we will also see what tariff deviations have accumulated during the August–September period.”
The Minister explained that global prices are influenced by disruptions to LNG supplies from Qatar, competition between Europe and Asia for liquefied natural gas, the level of European reserves, and maintenance work on some production facilities in Norway.
It should be noted that, as of 1 September, the natural gas tariff for end consumers in the Republic of Moldova was increased by 41 per cent and now stands at 20.3 lei per cubic metre.
