The film will tell the story of the life and work of Maria Dragan – a singer whose career spanned the 1960s and 1970s. She was the lead singer of the folk music ensemble ‘Mugurel’ and gained popularity thanks to her voice, which experts described as a national treasure, and her stage charisma.

This is the first biographical project about the singer. The film is being produced by OWH Studio. The project is directed by Călin Laur, with Virgiliu Mărgineanu as producer. Alexandrina Grecu plays the lead role. The singer’s relative, cinematographer Nicu Dragan, is also taking part in the filming.

The film is partly funded (around 10 per cent of the budget) by the National Cinematography Centre of Moldova. The team had previously announced the launch of an international crowdfunding campaign to complete the film.

The capital’s city council has confirmed that traffic will be diverted to neighbouring streets during filming. Public order will be maintained by officers from the General Inspectorate of Police and the General Inspectorate of the Carabinieri. The city council advises drivers to avoid travelling to this area where possible.
