There are now plans to merge the Koshernitsa village council with the Boșcana commune. Residents disagree with this, demanding either that the local administration be retained or that the village be merged with the town of Vadul-lui-Vodă. During consultations, over 98 per cent of residents voted in favour of merging with Vadul-lui-Vodă.
In Coșernița, people do not want to merge with Boshkana because the experience of the 1990s, when the villages were joined together, proved unsuccessful. People were left dissatisfied and do not want a repeat of that situation.
Fedor Tipa, the mayor of Coșernița, emphasises that the local authorities have demonstrated their ability to govern and develop independently.
“The nursery has reopened, and a youth centre has been built, which also houses a medical clinic,” he lists. ‘The roads have been tarmacked using external funding, not through the district council. Local entrepreneurs are contributing to the community’s development. We’re managing on our own. The village council must remain here; otherwise, the village risks being left by the wayside.
– I am not against reforms. But they must be carried out in the interests of the people, not through imposed decisions. People have the right to decide the fate of their community for themselves.”
