The Foreign Ministry emphasised that the Republic of Moldova’s decision was taken with due regard to Ukraine’s position.
“Our position took into account the concerns expressed by Ukraine regarding the possible political exploitation of certain cartographic representations, including those relating to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova decided to show solidarity with Ukraine, whilst fully adhering to its consistent position in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
It should be recalled that Moldova abstained from voting in the UN General Assembly on the adoption of a new world map. Along with Moldova, Ukraine, Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania and Serbia also abstained from the vote. 164 countries voted in favour of adopting the document, with only the US voting against it.
