Nevertheless, there is a faint glimmer of hope. According to weather forecasts, moderate rainfall is expected in the Carpathians later this week. Given the possibility of an improvement in the situation, the next meeting of the Moldovan-Ukrainian Commission on the Dniester has been scheduled for 14 September. It had previously been expected to take place on Friday, 11 September. Ilya Trombitsky, director of Eco-TIRAS, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
Logos Press reported that, according to an expert, the commission’s forthcoming decision regarding the future regime for releasing water from the reservoir could be extremely strict. The source cited did not rule out the possibility that the Ukrainian side might enter the negotiations with an initial proposal to reduce water releases from the reservoir to a level equal to the volume of water flowing into it.
