
The National Crisis Management Center (NCMC) declared an air alert. Authorities asked schoolchildren and teachers in the region to go to shelters, and employees of institutions to go to safe places and wait for further instructions.
It is indicated that this is a yellow alert, which by default means an attack is likely, but it is not happening yet.
“This incident is similar to what we have seen in Latvia and Estonia in recent days. Warning the population is a standard preventive measure,” the center points out.
The military has declared a red alert level
Following the “yellow” warning, the Lithuanian military declared a red alert level. The National Crisis Management Center stressed that schools and kindergartens are obliged to move children to shelters.
According to the Lithuanian portal Delfi.lt with reference to the BBC Russian Service, Vilnius airport is temporarily closed, traffic has stopped on the roads. In Vilnius district of Lithuania declared a red alert level because of the threat of drones, the country’s leadership was moved to shelter.
According to Delfi, the country’s top officials were also in shelters: Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Prime Minister Inga Ruginenė and Seimas Speaker Jozas Olekas.
Fifteen minutes after the alarm was announced, residents were told they could leave the shelters.
