
In July, revenue from the sale of consumer goods totaled 10.665 billion lei (61.7% of the total), which is 710 million lei more than in the previous year (+7.1%). These retail revenues offset the constant outflow of cash through ATMs and teller windows, driving increased demand for “cash.”
According to statistics from the National Bank of Moldova, revenue from the sale of goods constitutes the bulk of the leu cash entering the financial system. In July, total cash inflows amounted to 17.289 billion lei, an increase of 608 million lei (+3.6%) compared to the same month of the previous year.
Demand for cash in July, as in previous months, remained high and exceeded inflows by 713 million lei. Households and businesses withdrew 18.002 billion lei from their bank accounts, which was 279 million lei (+1.6%) higher than the outflow in the same month of the previous year.
