The first of the two batches—38 minibuses—was delivered to the districts and municipalities on August 21. In total, the vehicles will be distributed among 30 districts, municipalities, and Gagauzia. The districts of Florești and Ocnita will receive the most—five vehicles each—while Cahul will receive four.
The minibuses can carry 17 passengers and are equipped with seat belts, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and additional alarm systems. They will be used to transport students from communities without schools, as well as for trips to educational and extracurricular activities.
Currently, school transportation carries about 16,000 students daily across the country. In recent years, the fleet has also been expanded with support from Romania, Bulgaria, and the European Union.
As a reminder, starting September 1, 2026, 73 schools in Moldova will be reorganized: 10 will close, and 63 will change their status. 1,328 students—less than 0.5% of the total 330,000 students—will be affected by the reorganization. School transportation will be free for them, parents will receive financial support, and teachers will be offered professional retraining, assistance with relocation, and compensation for transportation costs.
