“We can confirm that we have responded to the recent letter from Ukraine’s Minister of Agriculture. In our response, we outlined areas where we could support Ukraine’s agricultural sector using existing mechanisms,” said European Commission Spokesperson Markus Lammerth in response to a query from the Ukrainian publication “European Truth.”
He noted that Ukraine “is already receiving interest rate subsidies on loans for farmers under the Ukraine Facility.” According to him, the European Commission also supports lending programs through intermediaries for Ukrainian banks, which in turn provide loans to entrepreneurs and, in particular, farmers.
“These programs can help farmers facing liquidity challenges,” the spokesperson said.
“Paths of Solidarity” to the Rescue
Markus Lammert assured that the European Commission is in close contact with Ukraine and the Ukrainian authorities on this issue, particularly to assess the situation in the Black Sea and the consequences of the naval blockade caused by Russian shelling.
“The Commission is also in contact with Romania, Moldova, Ukrainian authorities, and private companies to assess the situation regarding alternative transport routes (for agricultural products, note by Logos Press) via the ‘Solidarity Corridors’ ”, added the European Commission spokesperson.
