An all-time record was set on the “next-day” energy market

The Day-Ahead Market (DAM), operated by Operatorul Pieței de Energie M (OPEM), set an all-time record for electricity trading volume for the delivery date of August 22, 2026. Trading volume totaled 4,487.576 MWh, equivalent to approximately 40% of electricity consumption in the Republic of Moldova, at an average price of 2,427.08 MDL/MWh, which is equivalent to approximately 120 euros/MWh.

This record reflects a significant increase in trading volumes on the DAM and growing interest among wholesale market participants in short-term trading mechanisms.

In Moldova, commercial operation of the DAM began on December 10, 2025, and the first delivery day was December 11, 2025. The launch of the DAM marked an important step in the development of the wholesale electricity market and in aligning trading mechanisms in the Republic of Moldova with those used in European markets.

The Digital Market System (DAM) allows participants to buy and sell electricity for the following day through a transparent and competitive mechanism in which prices are determined by the interplay of supply and demand. The development of the DAM and the intraday market contributes to the development of the wholesale electricity market and brings Moldova closer to the mechanisms of European energy markets.

Operatorul Pieței de Energie M S.R.L. (OPEM) is the electricity market operator in the Republic of Moldova and a subsidiary of OPCOM S.A., the electricity and natural gas market operator in Romania.
