The information system will enable the integration of all consular services provided by diplomatic missions into a single virtual space, based on the ‘single electronic consular window’ model.
As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi emphasised when presenting the draft resolution, the launch of the system will provide consular services to approximately 1 million Moldovan citizens abroad. According to him, the system has undergone pilot testing in recent months and has been refined.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that the platform will improve the efficiency of service delivery to the diaspora. “I have used consular services in Kyiv, Boston, Amsterdam and Brussels,” he said. “We still have a lot of work to do in this area. We have made significant improvements, and I hope the new e-Consulat system will make services faster and more efficient.”
The administration, technical maintenance and further development of the e-Consulat information system will be funded from and within the financial resources allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as provided for in the annual budget law, as well as from other sources, in accordance with the law.
