The State Tax Service reports that it is continuing to carry out a series of inspections aimed at identifying and curbing illegal business activities by individuals. In August 2026, tax inspectors recorded 514 such cases, with the total amount of fines imposed amounting to 890,400 lei.

As in previous periods, violations were most frequently detected in the area of trade in goods. These accounted for 72 per cent of all detected violations. This included trade in goods sold via online platforms (3 per cent).

There was also a high proportion of unregistered activities by individuals in the provision of services, which stood at 14 per cent, as well as in the transport of passengers by taxi (11 per cent of the total number of offences).

The State Tax Service warns that if an individual carries out business activities illegally, inspectors will draw up a report on the offence in accordance with Article 263, Part 1 of the Code of Offences. The fine ranges from 1,500 to 4,500 lei.

The agency urges individuals engaged in business activities to register, declare their income in full and pay their taxes on time.
