The objectives are set out in the draft National Programme on Sexual and Reproductive Health for 2026–2030, which also aims to expand access to contraception and healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable groups.
To achieve these objectives, the authorities are proposing measures to improve the services provided to women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period, as well as to enhance the quality of care provided to newborns.
Emphasis will be placed on the early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies, monitoring the condition of the foetus during labour, and ensuring rapid access to emergency obstetric interventions.
The programme also aims to increase access to modern contraceptive methods and family planning services. Another priority is raising public awareness and developing sex education.
The project emphasises access to services for adolescents, people with disabilities, people on low incomes, Roma, migrants, survivors of gender-based violence and other vulnerable groups.
The estimated cost of implementing the programme for the period 2026–2030 is 171.34 million lei.
The draft National Programme on Sexual and Reproductive Health for 2026–2030 was drawn up by the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Mother and Child Institute (IMSP) and the ‘Nicolae Testemițanu’ State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The document is due to be considered at next week’s Government meeting.
