This is stated in an analytical review of the Moldovan grain and oilseed market by agri-marketing expert Iurie Rija.
Nevertheless, despite low demand, feed wheat (10.5 per cent protein content) has risen slightly in price this week. In Giurgiulești, the few buyers are offering 3,400 lei/t for feed wheat — 100 lei/t more than a week earlier.
In the north of the country, prices range from 2,650 to 2,750 lei/t, whilst in the centre they exceed 2,750 lei/t.
There have been no changes in the barley market compared with the previous week. In Giurgiulești, this fodder is being purchased at 3,200–3,300 lei/t, whilst in the north prices stand at 2,500–2,600 lei/t and in the central regions at 2,600–2,800 lei/t.
The most notable change over the week occurred in the rapeseed market, where the price fell by 0.20–0.25 lei/kg. According to Yuri Riza, around 80 per cent of the harvest has already been sold, and the volumes available on the market have fallen significantly. In Giurgiulești, rapeseed is selling for 10,400 lei/t (compared with 10,400–10,500 lei/t a week earlier). In the north of the country, the price of this oilseed is around 9,400 lei/t, whilst in the centre it is 9,600–9,700 lei/t.
Future trends in the grain and oilseed market will largely depend on how long the border congestion lasts. As yet, there are no clear indications as to when the situation might return to normal.
Logos Press note: It is clear that the queues at the Moldovan-Romanian border will ease shortly after the queues at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border have cleared. However, this does not appear likely to happen any time soon.
