This document will be pivotal to the development of the library and publishing ecosystem in the coming years. Its objectives are to create a unified network of smart libraries, increase access to digital services, and integrate modern technologies to preserve and promote cultural heritage.
The strategy is based on nine priority areas developed based on the results of a public opinion survey that covered various regions of the country.
“Each strategic priority has clear objectives, formulated according to a very simple formula: where we are today and where we want to be in 2030. We surveyed 272 respondents across Moldova—public library staff from various districts—and spoke with mayors, publishers, and writers. Digital transformation is not just about implementing technology; it is, above all, the synergy of all participants in the process,” — emphasized digital transformation expert Victor Guzun.
Elena Pintilei, Director General of the National Library of Moldova, noted that digital transformation will entail a shift in the paradigm itself: the library is transforming into an open institution capable of providing prompt and equal access to information for every citizen, regardless of their location.
The project is being implemented by the UNESCO Office in Venice as part of a technical assistance program to implement the 2005 UNESCO Convention. The Ministry of Culture and the National Library are partners in the initiative.
Marcela Nistor, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, assured that the ministry will provide comprehensive support for the project during its implementation—both in the form of direct funding and at the administrative level.
