The lesson titled “Independence That Unites Us” will be held in all public and private general education schools for students in grades 1–12.

During the lessons, students will discuss Moldova’s path to independence, the changes that have taken place in the country over the past 35 years, national symbols and values, as well as the role of each generation in the country’s development.  The lessons will be structured around three themes: “The Path to Independence,” “Symbols and Values of Independence,” and “Independence That Unites Us.”

What Other Changes Await Moldovan Schools Starting September 1

As a reminder, starting September 1, 2026, 73 schools in Moldova will be reorganized: 10 will close, and 63 will change their status. 1,328 students—less than 0.5% of the total 330,000 students—will be affected by the reorganization. School transportation will be free for them, parents will receive financial support, and teachers will be offered professional retraining, assistance with relocation, and compensation for transportation costs. Teachers who find employment in another district will be eligible for a relocation allowance of up to 300,000 lei.

In addition, amendments to the Education Code stipulate that, starting January 1, 2027, schools with more than 400 students will manage their own budgets. Currently, 939 schools already plan and spend their funds independently. Another 172 schools are financially managed by the accounting departments of local authorities.

Also, starting September 1, 2026, the 10-point grading scale will be reinstated for exam subjects in the 4th grade, replacing the descriptive grading system of “very good,” “good,” and “satisfactory.”
