According to Libertatea, the predator showed up on the hotel grounds Friday evening, got inside the building and climbed the stairs, damaging the door. Hotel staff remained on site all night and ensured the safety of guests. They made repeated calls to the 112 service, they said.

“We were on duty until morning and constantly called the emergency services. At some point we were forced to control the situation on our own – help never arrived, despite the fact that there was a specialized team in the city,” Libertatea quotes the words of the hotel staff.

The situation has caused concern among local residents as well. According to them, the appearance of bears in settlements has become a regular occurrence and poses a real security threat.

“It’s already scary. It is enough to leave the door open – and a bear can enter the house. We don’t understand how to deal with it,” say the residents of the region.

The incident in Poiana Brasov became another episode in a series of similar cases in the Romanian Carpathians. Earlier last week in the town of Calimanesti, a local resident chased away a bear that approached his house using a shovel.

According to Romanian media, over the past nine years after the introduction of restrictions on hunting in the country, hundreds of bear attacks on people have been recorded – 264 people were injured and 20 died. Against the background of the growth of such cases, mountain residents and representatives of the tourism industry are increasingly demanding that the authorities tighten control over the bear population and strengthen security measures in tourist areas.
