Plum prices in Moldova are falling rapidly, despite strong exports

This year’s peak sales season for Moldovan plums began approximately two weeks later than the average for the current five-year period. The working wholesale price for these fruits did not stabilize until the last week of July—at about 15 lei per kilogram. Over the four weeks since then, the wholesale price for this fruit has fallen to 8–10 lei per kilogram.

Nevertheless, according to EastFruit’s price monitoring data, the current price level is approximately 13–15% higher than in August of last year, and it is, in fact, the highest for this month in the past five years. At the same time, wholesale plums on the Moldovan market this week (0.53/kg) are significantly cheaper than in Ukraine (0.67/kg) and Poland (0.71/kg). Apparently, this is one of the reasons, according to traders, for the active export sales of this product.

As Logos Press previously reported, Moldovan fruit growers are expecting a bumper harvest in 2026 and high-quality plums. The “Moldova Fruct” Association estimates this year’s harvest to be “12–16% higher than in 2025.” Last year, according to statistics, the plum harvest totaled 114,000 metric tons.
