“The Chisinau City Hall provides 700 lei annually to approximately 2,000 students from socially vulnerable families in Chisinau. It is an institutionalized program. Last year, exactly one month before the parliamentary elections, the Moldovan government provided 1,000 lei to every student in the country. This year, unfortunately, such social assistance is no longer being provided. “Social assistance must be institutionalized, predictable, and provided according to clear rules!” Pruteanu stated.
Meanwhile, the PSRM opposition parliamentary faction has introduced a bill proposing that, starting September 1, 2026, every child in grades 1–9 to receive a one-time financial grant of 1,000 lei to prepare for the new school year. Approximately 340 million lei are needed to implement this measure in 2026.
We note that last year, the government provided a one-time financial grant of 1,000 lei to every child enrolled in grades 1–9 to help them prepare for the new school year. Approximately 300 million lei were allocated for this measure, benefiting about 297,000 students.
