The Republic of Moldova has crossed the threshold of 1 GW of installed renewable energy (RE) capacity, reaching 1,023.42 MW. This achievement reflects the accelerated development of domestic renewable electricity generation capacity.

At the moment, the state agency Moldsilva coordinates the activities of 19 independent forestry enterprises. More than half of these enterprises are currently unprofitable. The basis of their economic activity is the harvesting and sale of timber, mainly firewood.
