The event brings together representatives of more than 180 WOAH Member Countries, international experts and high-level officials in the field of veterinary medicine and food safety. The main objective of this year’s meeting is to adopt new international standards and address the global challenges caused by transboundary animal diseases.
Discussions in the current session focus on the long-term strategic vision, including the adoption of the 8th WOAH Strategic Plan. The centerpiece of the event is the Animal Health Forum under the theme “Investing in Animal Health – A Secured Future for All”. This global call emphasizes that early disease prevention is far more effective and less expensive than managing major veterinary crises.
“The participation of the RM in this highest decision-making body for the global livestock sector is a strategic priority, especially in the context of the European integration process and the harmonization of national legislation with European Union and international standards. For ANSA, the strengthening of the veterinary sector and the consistent implementation of the One Health approach are essential pillars to protect livestock production, ensure food security and promote safe trade in animal products on the international market. By attending the Summit in Paris, ANSA reaffirms its commitment to maintaining an active dialog with international partners, adopting best practices and state-of-the-art scientific tools. These actions are aimed at maintaining a stable epidemiological situation in the Republic of Moldova and supporting local producers in entering foreign markets,” the agency said in a statement on the occasion.
The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), founded in 1924 as the International Epizootic Bureau, received its current name in May 2003. It is an intergovernmental organization whose goal is to promote transparency of information on animal diseases and to improve animal health worldwide in order to build a safer, healthier and more sustainable world. The Republic of Moldova joined the bureau on September 29, 1994 by Parliament Decision No. 232/1994.
