At this stage, pipes are being installed, supporting structures and hydro-technological equipment necessary for supplying the irrigation system with river water are being fixed. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of MAIA informs that “the works are carried out in difficult technical conditions, with the use of specialized equipment, in accordance with the requirements of environmental protection and the standards of the relevant installation”.

The irrigated lands in the region grow mainly vegetables and grapes. The Ministry believes that the rehabilitation of the said centralized irrigation system “will contribute to a more efficient use of agricultural land and reduce vulnerability during periods of drought”.

The system is managed by Irig Com, an association of irrigation water users, and the work is being carried out under the AGGRI project financed by the World Bank.
