“This represents an increase compared to 2021 (which remains one of the best years for Moldova’s agriculture in the current decade, according to Logos Press). Wheat production that year stood at 1.56 million metric tons. A modest increase is projected for the current season, but we’re still talking about one of the best years for agriculture,” MAIA State Secretary Vasile Șarban told Agroexpert.
Apparently, as the harvest campaign unfolds, the optimism of farmers and ministry officials is growing. A month ago, in an interview with Logos Press, Vasile Şarban reported that the good condition of the crops gives reason to hope for a wheat harvest of 1.5 million metric tons.
It is worth noting that specialized media outlets in neighboring Ukraine recently reported that initial estimates of wheat yields in the country vary widely—ranging from 2.5 to 5.2 metric tons per hectare, with an average of 4.5 metric tons per hectare.
