The Prime Minister’s press secretary, Dumitru Chiriță, explained that there was very little time to prepare for the events. The new government was approved on July 22, and there were just over five weeks left before the event on August 27. This was not enough time to follow the standard public procurement procedure, including selecting a contractor and fully preparing for the event. Therefore, the authorities used the legal tools at their disposal to organize the event within the set timeframe.
The initial concept was more expensive
The government notes that the initial plan for celebrating the 35th anniversary of independence was more ambitious and would have required significantly higher expenses. Specifically, the plan called for the installation of 35 columns and several video displays, which were intended to symbolize the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Moldova’s independence. After the new government was approved, Prime Minister Tofan ordered a review of the plan and a reduction in expenses.
The final amount included expenses for the stage, lighting systems, LED panels, artists’ fees, two dress rehearsals, as well as the logistics required for them and the staging of the concert itself on August 27.
