In 2026, the harvest of wine grape varieties is expected to be approximately 10–15% higher than in the previous year, according to council members’ estimates. The average yield per vineyard will be 8–9 metric tons per hectare; depending on the variety, region, and cultivation techniques, yields may range from 7 to 13 metric tons per hectare.
During the period 2021–2025, the total area of vineyards in Moldova decreased from 117,500 hectares to 107,200 hectares, including bearing vineyards—from 104,400 hectares to 93,600 hectares. The area of vineyards planted with wine grape varieties totals 90,500 hectares, with approximately 80,000 hectares currently in the fruiting stage.
During the discussions at the council meeting, the costs associated with maintaining vineyards in 2026 were analyzed. They are estimated at 52,000–80,000 lei/ha (including depreciation of fixed assets). Participants in the discussion noted that expense levels and production costs vary from one farm to another—depending on the location and age of the vineyards, the varieties grown, the technologies used, and yield standards.
Based on the information presented, the council members took note of a range of 6.8–8.2 lei/kg as indicative prices for wine grapes from the 2026 harvest.
Meeting participants emphasized that this is strictly an indicative price. The actual purchase price is determined through direct negotiations between grape growers and wineries—depending on market conditions, the variety and quality of the grapes, the intended use of the product, and other conditions specific to each region and each transaction.
In addition, members of the product line council noted:
- for grapes intended for the production of high-quality wines and for autochthonous grape varieties, it is recommended to set prices 15–30% above the base level;
- for grapes used as raw material for distillation, prices may be 25–30% below the base level.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives of government agencies reminded grape growers of their obligation to register their vineyards in Moldova’s viticulture and winemaking registry.
