This measure was adopted following a new market assessment and is intended to limit the impact of rising fuel prices on the population and the economy.

For the period from September 1 to 15, the reduction will amount to 701.07 Romanian lei per 1,000 liters and 829.69 lei per metric ton, respectively.

This is the second consecutive reduction implemented through this mechanism. Between August 16 and 31, the excise tax on standard diesel fuel was reduced by 20%, equivalent to a reduction of 560.86 lei per 1,000 liters.

However, the price of diesel began to rise again 48 hours after the reduced excise tax was introduced.

The goal of the measures taken by the Romanian government is to bring the price of diesel fuel for end consumers below 10 Romanian lei (37.80 Moldovan lei) per liter.

In Moldova, diesel currently costs 32.89 Moldovan lei per liter. This price is in effect from August 29 through September 1.
