As RBC notes (incidentally, there is no mention on the Moldovan Foreign Ministry’s website of the Moldovan ambassador being summoned or a note of protest being handed to him), Chisinau stated that a drone carrying explosives had illegally entered the country’s airspace.
“We cannot confirm anything yet. We have requested additional information on this matter. This is a new issue that requires an investigation. We need to understand the flight path—where the drone came from, what trajectory it followed—as well as photographic evidence and so on. This is the standard information we traditionally request in such cases,” RBC quoted Oleg Ozerov as saying, citing TASS.
According to the Russian side, the situation involving the detected drone raises many logical questions. Why was there no explosion when the drone crashed, if it contained explosives? Why didn’t the villagers hear the sound of the drone flying overhead, even though “it’s a very loud drone”? RBC lists these and other questions, as stated by the Russian ambassador to Moldova.
This is not the first time drones have crashed in Moldova or southern Ukraine, incidents that have led to increased tensions between Chisinau and Moscow. Moldova blames Russia for these incidents, while Moscow demands evidence and emphasizes that it never directs its drones or missiles toward NATO countries or Europe, including Moldova.
