These targets are set out in the draft National Programme for the Development of Electric Mobility up to 2030, which was discussed today with private operators in the charging infrastructure sector at a meeting at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
The document sets out the areas in which the authorities will support the development of electric transport, the expansion of the charging infrastructure and the reduction of the environmental impact of road transport.
One of the objectives is to create a national digital system that will provide centralised information on charging stations, including their location, capacity, connector type, tariff and availability. This will make it easier for drivers to identify where they can charge their vehicles and plan their routes.
The programme also provides for the expansion of the network beyond Chișinău, with stations to be located at key regional hubs in the north, centre and south, as well as along national and international roads. The development of electric transport corridors will allow drivers to travel between regions without having to plan their journeys based on battery range.
By 2030, the programme also aims to reduce CO₂ emissions from road transport by at least 15 per cent compared with 2025 levels.
There are currently more than 250 public charging points in the Republic of Moldova, whilst electric and hybrid vehicles account for approximately 7 per cent of the national vehicle fleet.
