Information from the National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD) notes that the call for proposals is dedicated to the study of so-called ‘new ecosystems’ – systems formed under the influence of environmental changes and human activity – as well as their impact on biodiversity and socio-economic processes.
The call for proposals, ‘New Ecosystems: Biodiversity, Socio-Environmental Impacts and Future Trajectories’, is aimed at transnational research projects whose findings can be used to develop practical solutions and public policy.
Priorities include investigating the causes and drivers of ecosystem change, the biological consequences of these changes, and the risks, opportunities and trade-offs associated with current and future socio-ecological transformations.
Research may be conducted in terrestrial, freshwater, marine and coastal ecosystems in any region of the world.
Projects must employ integrated, systemic and interdisciplinary approaches and be consistent with the objectives of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Three research areas
The call for proposals covers three main areas.
The first is the functioning of new ecosystems. In this area, research is proposed into the mechanisms underpinning the functioning of new ecosystems, their interaction with social, cultural and economic processes, as well as approaches to conserving and enhancing biodiversity.
The second is trajectories of transition to new ecosystems. This involves analysing realistic and sustainable scenarios for the development of ecosystems and associated socio-environmental processes under conditions of uncertainty.
Thirdly – the benefits of biodiversity and equity. Research should focus, in particular, on the equitable distribution of biodiversity-related benefits and the development of inclusive pathways for socio-ecological transformation.
Applications will be selected in two stages
The call for proposals requires the submission of preliminary proposals in the first stage. Consortia that pass the selection process will be able to submit full project proposals in the second stage.
Applications must be submitted via the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS) in English. They will be assessed by independent experts.
The call for proposals opened on 9 September 2026. Preliminary proposals must be submitted by early November 2026, and full proposals by early April 2027.
For Moldovan research teams, a key requirement of the call is participation in international consortia, as this is specifically a transnational research programme.
