A conference on agricultural risk management is to be held in Chișinău

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced an international conference entitled ‘Developing a New Agricultural Risk Management System in the Republic of Moldova’, which will take place on 26 November 2026 in Chișinău. The event will be attended by representatives of local authorities, the European Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), as well as experts, farmers and insurers.

The aim of the conference is to analyse the main climatic and health risks in Moldova and, above all, to identify effective solutions for improving the national system for managing these risks. The focus will be on the shortcomings of the current system for mitigating the economic consequences of extreme weather events and on promising tools for enhancing the resilience of the country’s agri-food sector.

It is expected that MAIA Minister Eugen Osmocescu will present a new agricultural risk management model at the forum, designed to adapt Moldova’s agricultural sector to competition in the European Union market. In turn, international experts will outline European requirements and share the experience of EU countries in this field. Topics for discussion include weather-index-based agricultural risk insurance, as well as the practice of using state ‘disaster funds’.

The event is organised by MAIA, the FAO and the ‘Moldovan-German Dialogue on Agricultural Policy’ (APD Moldova) project, with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
