In the energy sector, projects related to electricity generation and storage will be expedited, and investment applications will be given priority consideration. For storage facilities with a capacity of at least 1 MW and a storage capacity of more than 2 MWh, connection permits for a total capacity of up to 200 MW may be issued for applications submitted by September 15. The permits will be valid for no more than six months.
Local authorities will be required, within technical capabilities, to reduce electricity consumption for street lighting by at least 50%.
At the same time, the drought continues to affect the Dniester, Prut, and a number of small rivers. Between August 18 and 25, the water level in the Dniester Reservoir dropped by 31 cm. Water supply operators will monitor water reserves and prepare alternative solutions for communities at risk of water supply disruptions.
As a reminder, the Moldovan government first declared a 30-day state of alert (heightened readiness) in the energy and hydrology sectors on July 28.
