During a meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi, the parties discussed the main areas of cooperation between Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as opportunities for further developing political dialogue and practical cooperation.
The foreign minister noted the importance of Moldova’s partnership with NATO, which dates back to 1994. According to him, cooperation over this period has contributed to the strengthening of state institutions and the modernization of the national security and defense sector.
The parties paid particular attention to the implementation of the objectives of the Moldova–NATO Individual Partnership Program (ITPP) for 2025–2028.
Resilience and Modernization of the Security Sector
Tanya Hartman, Chair of the NATO Political Committee, commended the progress of the partnership between Moldova and the Alliance, as well as the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to strengthen the country’s resilience and modernize the security sector.
Moldova’s role in international peacekeeping efforts was highlighted separately. In particular, the participation of National Army contingents in the KFOR operation in Kosovo, which has been ongoing since 2014, was noted.
Moldova has been cooperating with NATO under the “Partnership for Peace” program since 1994. This cooperation encompasses strengthening institutional resilience, reforming and modernizing the security and defense sectors, professional training, cybersecurity, strategic communications, and participation in international peacekeeping efforts.
