As reported by Logos Press, our country became the 40th member of the EPO as of June 1, 2026. The first application was filed with AGEPI on August 25. The agency is responsible for receiving, processing, and forwarding European patent applications to the European Patent Office (EPO).
The EPO conducts a centralized examination procedure for European patent applications. The Office is headquartered in Munich, with branch offices in Berlin, Brussels, The Hague, and Vienna.
Following Moldova’s accession to the European Patent Convention, applicants from the country gained access to the European system for protecting inventions. AGEPI notes that this step is important for Moldova’s research and innovation community and confirms the country’s integration into the European system for the protection of inventions.
For Moldovan researchers and entrepreneurs, the European patent system provides an additional mechanism for protecting intellectual property at the international level.
