Prime Minister Vasile Tofan explained at a cabinet meeting why he had chosen these candidates.
Speaking about Eugen Osmochescu, Tofan noted that agriculture is a “very complex” sector, and the ministry needs competent and honest people who understand how the government works.
“We need to make important, sometimes difficult decisions and, with the limited resources we have, direct subsidies where they will have the greatest impact”, the prime minister said.
The prime minister described Claudiu Năsui as an experienced economist and politician, noting that he had served as Romania’s minister of economy, was a member of parliament, and had worked in the private sector, including in the financial sector.
“The reason we chose Mr. Năsui as our candidate is that we face serious structural problems in the economy, and we need boldness here”, Tofan said.
According to the prime minister, Năsui advocates for cutting excessive government spending, lowering taxes, and reducing the number of state-owned companies while managing them more effectively. Tofan believes that this approach is fully in line with the government’s program and the economic challenges facing the Republic of Moldova.
The appointed ministers will take the oath of office in the presence of President Maia Sandu.
It is not yet known whether Eugeniu Osmocescu will retain his position as deputy prime minister or whether Claudiu Nesui will assume that role.
As a reminder, Claudiu Năsuı was granted Moldovan citizenship yesterday pursuant to a decree signed by President Maia Sandu.
