With UNICEF support, sanitary conditions in Moldovan schools are improving

The National Bureau for Regional and Local Development announced an open tender for the rehabilitation and construction of water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure in seven Moldovan educational institutions, worth over 9.39 million lei. The project is implemented with the support of UNICEF.

The list of beneficiaries included: Gymnasium of Tocuz village (Causeni district), Gymnasium named after Valeriu Hanganu (Cochulia village, Cantemir district), Lyceum “Lăpuşna” (Lăpuşna town, Hînceşti district), Theoretical Lyceum named after Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (Olanesti village, Stefan Voda district), Theoretical Lyceum named after Fedor Ianioglo (Cioc Maidan village, ATU Gagauzia), Gymnasium named after George Cosbuca (Andrusul de Jos village, Cahul district) and Gymnasium named after Grigore Vieru (Vasilcău village, Soroca district).

The contracts include the repair of sanitary units, water supply and sewerage networks, as well as the design and installation of wastewater treatment plants.

Interested economic operators may apply for one, several or all lots put out to tender, with the proviso that no more than three lots may be awarded to a single bidder. Bidding documents are available through the state’s electronic public procurement system, and the work is scheduled to be completed by September 15, 2026.

According to the 2025 data, in more than 80 schools in the Republic of Moldova, toilets for pupils are still located in the street, outside the buildings of educational institutions.
