Survey on the EU

70% of the country’s citizens trust the European Union—that’s nearly 20 percentage points higher than their trust in any other global player. At the same time, about 90% of Moldovans believe that the country maintains good relations with the European Union, which is a historic high over the past 10 years.

Priorities are ranked as follows: 42% of respondents expect the EU to support the fight against corruption, second only to economic development (51%) and the implementation of local projects with EU assistance (47%).

Fifty-eight percent of citizens support European integration, and 76% believe that Moldova will become a member of the EU in the future.

Although the country report focuses on the high level of trust Moldovan citizens have in the European Union, the pessimism toward their own government institutions cannot be overlooked.

The level of trust in key state institutions in Moldova remains extremely low: 75% of Moldovans stated that they do not trust the judicial system, and 58% of respondents do not trust the electoral system.

Distrust of political institutions is also high: 61% do not trust the parliament, 56% do not trust the government, and 44% do not trust the president.

The exceptions are local authorities and religious leaders. Among all institutions, local public administration bodies (67%) and religious leaders (77%) enjoy the highest levels of trust.

The survey was conducted in January–February 2026 using face-to-face interviews. A total of 1,027 people from various regions of the country participated.
