Musk did not rule out the largest deal in his business empire

Elon Musk raised the possibility of a merger between Tesla and SpaceX, stating that the ties between the two companies are growing ever closer. The Tesla CEO noted that the number of joint projects with the space company continues to grow, but emphasized that any decisions of this magnitude must go through official corporate procedures.

“As you can see from our numerous collaborative projects with SpaceX across a wide range of fields, there are increasingly more areas of overlap,” Musk said during Tesla’s fiscal year-end investor conference.

The entrepreneur added that questions regarding a potential merger of the companies cannot be discussed as part of a regular financial report and require separate consideration.

Investor interest in a potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX has intensified amid the rising value of Musk’s space business and the expansion of collaboration between the companies, Reuters reports. Tesla and SpaceX are already working on a number of joint projects, including the development of manufacturing technologies and the Terafab initiative to build infrastructure for the production of artificial intelligence chips.

Analysts believe that a merger could create a unified technology platform combining electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, robotics, energy, and space technologies.

JPMorgan previously noted that operational ties between the two entities have already grown significantly thanks to shared engineering resources, AI infrastructure, and Musk’s involvement in managing both companies.

Deepwater Asset Management stated that the likelihood of such a scenario has increased. The firm’s managing partner, Gene Munster, estimated the probability of a Tesla-SpaceX merger in the coming years at 90%.

At the same time, experts point to serious obstacles. A potential deal would require regulatory approvals, as well as resolving corporate governance issues: Musk controls a significantly larger share of voting rights at SpaceX than at Tesla.

A potential merger would mark the largest restructuring of Musk’s business empire and one of the most ambitious corporate projects in the global technology industry.
