Work to restore power began shortly after the accident, according to Meduza. At around 1:30 a.m., Georgia’s State Electric System reported that power had been partially restored in the Mtskheta-Mtianti region and across most of Tbilisi. Restoration efforts continued in other parts of the country as well.
The official causes of this recent major outage have not yet been disclosed. The State Electric System stated that experts are investigating the circumstances of the incident and promised to release detailed information once the investigation is complete.
In the first few hours after the outage, reports appeared in local media and on social media about a possible accident on the power line connecting the Georgian and Turkish power grids. However, the State Electric System refuted this theory, telling Pirveli TV that it was untrue.
The widespread blackout affected a significant portion of the country and was one of the most extensive power grid failures in Georgia in recent times. Authorities are continuing to investigate the causes of the incident and assess its consequences.
