“This was a personal decision, an act of responsibility taken to protect public trust in the government and the governance process. I respect this decision. The work of the Ministry of Agriculture will continue without interruption, and a new minister will be appointed as soon as possible,” said Vasile Tofan.
“The government must implement a number of important and complex reforms in the near future that are necessary to ensure the well-being of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and to preserve that trust, I considered stepping down from my post to be a responsible gesture. The professionalism and fairness I have demonstrated must not be tarnished or undermined by false and manipulative information. I thank everyone for their support, recognition, and encouragement,” said Radu Musteață.
Earlier, photos appeared on social media that allegedly proved that Radu Musteață had previously been a member of the Democratic Party of Moldova. The minister himself stated that the photo had been misinterpreted and emphasized that he had never been a member of the DPM.
“I have never headed any local branch of a political party, nor have I been a member of the Democratic Party. During my student years, I supported the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, sincerely believing in the need for change in the Republic of Moldova, in the need to participate in the process to leave the communist past behind and contribute to the European path and reforms that improve people’s lives,” said Radu Musteață.
Earlier, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan stated that he had discussed with Radu Mustiață information that had appeared in the public domain, and the minister denied any connection to the Democratic Party. Nevertheless, the resignation took place. Entrepreneurs Ion Luca and Vitalie Buzu are considered the most likely candidates for the post of Minister of MAIA.
