What is the interest of Estonian agricultural experience for Moldova? Eurointegration, digitalization, agricultural councils

Estonia's experience in the collection, verification and use of agricultural data in the public policy-making process is being studied during a visit to the country by a team of MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry specialists led by Secretary General Sergiu Gerciu.

During the visit, MAIA representatives met with Olavi Petron, Deputy Secretary General for Fisheries Policy and Foreign Policy of the Estonian Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture. The parties discussed Estonia’s actions during the period when the country was joining the European Union. The role of objective data on the current situation in justifying decisions in agriculture was also discussed.

MAIA representatives participated in a dialog with Kerli Ats, Executive Director of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Moldovan delegation was interested in the Estonian experience in establishing a local chamber of agriculture, its role in agribusiness and ways of cooperation with state institutions.

The program of the visit also includes visits to Estonian institutions that manage agricultural registers, market information and digital tools used in agriculture.

The study tour is organized within the framework of the Twinning project on cooperation between partner countries “Capacity building for sectoral monitoring, data management and payment administration in the agri-food sector”.
