Food Bank of Moldova – more than one million food packages for the needy

The role of the Food Bank of Moldova in optimizing food chains - reducing the number of food losses - was discussed during a study meeting between the founder of this organization Igor Belei, its executive director Oleg Parasciv and MAIA Minister Liudmila Catlabuga.

Food Bank – organization that manages the mechanism of collection of unsold food products from commercial networks, their sorting and transfer to social services of the Republic of Moldova.

During the dialogue between the representatives of the Food Bank and the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, among other aspects of this institution’s activity, the organization of awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting responsible consumption and reducing food waste was touched upon, MAIA reported.

During 2025, within the framework of the implementation of this model of food redistribution, more than 124 tons of food products were collected, from which about 248.7 thousand food packages were formed, intended for the needy segments of the population. The products were distributed to 98 social organizations: canteens, accommodation centers, day care centers and nursing homes.

Since the launch of the initiative, to date, the total amount of food collected by the Food Bank has exceeded 509 tons, which is equivalent to more than 1.17 million standard food packages for the needy.
