This was announced by Moldova’s Central Election Commission (CEC). The elections became possible following the official publication on August 26 of Law No. 192/2026 on amendments to Moldova’s Electoral Code No. 325/2022, which were opposed in Gagauzia and are still not considered by the autonomous region to be fair or in compliance with the law on the special legal status of Gagauzia.
According to the schedule for organizing and conducting the elections presented by the Central Election Commission of Moldova, lower-level electoral bodies and polling stations will be established during the election period, and documents for the registration of candidates for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will be accepted and reviewed.
In addition, voter rolls will be updated, informational events for voters will be organized, and training will be provided for election officials. In subsequent stages, the voting process itself will be organized and the results will be tallied.
The election period will conclude after the election results are confirmed and the mandates of the elected deputies to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia are approved.
Requirements for Media Outlets and Advertisers
With the start of the election period, media service providers and advertisers, as well as owners or operators of stationary and mobile advertising structures, must publish the terms and conditions for providing advertising space to participants in the electoral process.
In accordance with Article 90, Part 5 of the Electoral Code, during the first seven days of the election period, media service providers must submit to the Council on Television and Radio a declaration on their editorial policy regarding election coverage or a notification stating that they will not participate in such coverage.
Media providers that declare their intention to cover the election must, within the same timeframe—through September 3, 2026, inclusive—publish the terms for providing advertising space, including the cost per minute, as well as other related services for election participants or initiative groups. This information must be submitted to the Central Election Commission and the Council on Television and Radio.
The same deadline applies to owners or operators of fixed and mobile advertising structures. They must publish the terms for providing advertising space and related services to election participants or initiative groups and inform the CEC of this.
The relevant information must be submitted to the CEC. It will subsequently be published on the commission’s official website in the section dedicated to the elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.
