The Water Level Situation on the Dniester: No Improvements Yet

As of today, the water level in the Dniester Reservoir stands at 112.35 meters. Over the past 24 hours, the inflow into the reservoir has ranged from 15 to 29 cubic meters per second. The downstream flow remains unchanged at 75 cubic meters per second. The water level in the Dubossary Reservoir is virtually constant—approximately 28.06 meters.

As noted by Ilya Trombitsky, director of Eco-TIRAS, who posted this information on his Facebook page, in response to a request from the Moldovan side of the Dniester Commission, the Ukrainian side has not yet explained why, in its assessment, “the 112-meter level of the Dniester Reservoir is critical.” This is despite the fact that the commission has officially recognized 102.5 meters as the “dead” level (that is, a level nearly 10 meters lower than the current one).

“The ‘dead level’ is when the outflow cannot exceed the inflow into the reservoir—that is, today, no more than 29 cubic meters per second,” he commented on the situation. In other words, given the current outflow into the lower, Moldovan section of the Dniester, there is still a margin before reaching the “dead level.”
